The Outrigger Reef Fiji
is a 254 room resort
located in the heart
of Fiji's Coral Coast,
on the main island
of Viti Levu.
Set into a steep hillside
that slopes down to meet the palm-fringed sea,
the resort resembles
a Fijian village with clusters of thatched cottages
and acres of
landscaped garden.
The Outrigger Reef Fiji, which opened
in the year 2000,
features over 300 paintings
by M. W. Rova
in its guest rooms.

' Veikau Loa' means 'Rainforest' in Fijian.
The slopes of the steep, volcanic mountains
inland of Fiji's Coral Coast
are blanketed in dense tropical jungle.
The ideas for these paintings were gathered
on visits to these forests,
and to the "Kula Eco-Park" located right next
to the Outrigger Reef Resort.

A painting that celebrates the return of migratory sea turtles to Fiji's warm lagoons.
The designs on the backs of the turtles
echo the rhythmic patterns found
in the traditional 'masi kesa' artwork of Fiji.
