One advantage
about being so far out in the middle of the Pacific Ocean
is that the invasion of western culture into the traditional Fijian
way of life
has been relatively slow in coming.
True, island life today is very different than it was for my husbands
great-grandparents;
yet authentic cultural traditions are still very much alive, touching
many aspects of our lives,
and have a deep bearing on the Fijian psyche.
The artwork below
was all inspired to some degree
by elements of traditional Fijian culture.
