One advantage about being so far out in the middle of the Pacific Ocean
is that the invasion of western culture into the traditional Fijian way of life
has been relatively slow in coming.
True, island life today is very different than it was for my husbands great-grandparents;
yet authentic cultural traditions are still very much alive, touching many aspects of our lives,
and have a deep bearing on the Fijian psyche
.

by elements of traditional Fijian culture.
