One of my favorite tropical flowers, ever present in gardens all over Fiji,
heliconia flowers shoot out from lush tropical foliage like flames of fire.
The background of this painting picks up on the geometric patterns
of traditional Fijian barkcloth,
giving this contemporary painting an oceanic feel.
"Island Heliconias" is one in a set of four paintings
featuring tropical flowers on abstract backgrounds.
